“…Most populations of Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia) live in the High Atlas (Figure 4), mainly in the Toubkal National Park and the Eastern High Atlas National Park. The demand for this game species constrained the remaining animals to the most mountainous areas. These three species [Barbary sheep, Dorcas gazelle and Cuvier’s gazelle] benefited of conservation measures, including the establishment of protected areas, which moderated their decline. More, they are preserved in game enclosures (Cuzin et al. 2007) and captive bred in the Estación Experimental de Zonas Aridas de Almería (Alados et al. 1988, Abáigar & Cano 2005).”
